In this first episode of our MIA2K podcast we’re diving into all the chaos caused by the BTS members creating and managing individual Instagram accounts for themselves – especially considering it’s been less than a month since this all started.

The basics

Monday, Dec 6, 2021, all seven members of BTS opened individual accounts. They’re here to INSTIGATE, and it’s working. First things first, here are their handles:

The timing? SUS

JHope shared in an insta caption that they were told they were going to open instagrams during his trip to Hawaii. So it was definitely a strategy.

• They announced a break on Sunday 12/05 (their first time being off for the holidays since they became BTS over 10 years ago) 
• We NEVER saw individual IG accounts coming. It was on no one’s bingo card. Every army that thought we were gonna be able to take a break and catch our breaths before the next album drops – we played ourselves. 
• They have comments limited to only themselves/close friends, and we’re getting to witness their great and wholesome banter in yet another platform.

It’s a great start to their global takeover. Super strategic move on BigHit/HYBE’s part because Armies have Weverse and even with a break, we knew they would post every so often there. But Instagram lets them be in the general public’s mind throughout their break. Truly, Hybe Overlords take us as your apprentices, please. This can be the start our origin villain story.

The feeds so far

As of our recording this episode, there’s quite a bit to report from some of them, and not as much from others.

TL;DR: Jin, Jimin, and Suga = MIA.

• Jin has been giving us EatJin Insta Edition.
• Jimin gave us 2 generic pictures and forgot his password. Notably, his profile picture is a fan edit.
• Suga has given us his fan service selcas, capitalistic promotion, and the jewel in the rough, the picture of him, his undercut, and his BDE energy. This man is going around the US like a mysterious cat, dropping pics every 2-3 days. No captions, nothing. It’s unexpected that he’d be the one to stay in the US/West the longest, but we’re SO happy he’s enjoying himself. Also. The black hair and that undercut? Daechwita era Min Yoongi approaching Eastern Time zone = we should be afraid for our lives.
• Jungkook is so good at everything that his Insta account is the ONLY one of the seven that isn’t listed as a New Account… and he just casually slipped that past us. We’ve KNOWN they’ve been lurking on all the apps. He’s Gen Z, no way he didn’t have a Finsta before. But we do love a good confirmation moment. Receipts are the best. (He also did Jin proud and made his @ handle a superb dad joke with the actual entire alphabet). 
• j-hope is giving us curated posts, an active feed and story, and a shirt with a bunch of condoms in print. He understood the assignment from Day 1. Also, maybe he’s the one behind us not getting notifications because it doesn’t matter how often you refresh insta and how early you are to a post of any of the members, he was first. CEO of Instagram first likes & comments. He thought of everything from his handle to his feed’s vibe. We hope he continues wearing provocative shirts, because YES. Also, he has let his fuckboy energy go wild.
• RM is giving us a tour of art galleries around the US – he’s sharing his favorite thing with us, and we just love our leader so much. The whole “RM came to the MET for the UNGA but I want to return as Kim Namjoon” moment left us in tears. He’s curating his feed beautifully, and since curate sounds like “curar” in Spanish which means to heal, he’s healing us with the art that heals him. He shared his vacation with us WHILE also serving as the best art museum ambassador the world has ever seen. RM also comments on other members shit a lot and that’s why he’s the best leader.
• V started his Instagram journey by surpassing Jackson Wang as the most followed male idol. This man’s posting and deleting of thirst traps is NOT IT. Trap us and be done with it. It’s not like everyone didn’t catch you in 4K already sir. He’s definitely just testing the waters of what he can get away with and we’re living for it. Hello deleted story with facial hair. His feed is the most relatable (or as relatable as an international pop star can be) because he’s just posting whatever he wants

Closing thoughts?

What a time to be alive. Truly, blessed be the asteroid that fragmented and formed the meteor that fell on the prehistoric land decimating the animals that became fossils and then oil that was extracted and used in the manufacture of the fuel that supplied the machinery to build the hospitals where these seven men were born. 

And us of course. We’re just so thankful to be experiencing all of this in what we feel to be our prime.  They’re keeping us fed and we can’t wait for what’s to come.
