Episode 2 – Our Heads are STILL in the Clouds

Our podcast today is about our experience at the Head in the Clouds music festival, which took place in Pasadena California just over 2 months ago before Omicron hit us all in the face. We’ll talk about how we ended up there, how Laura dragged her poor husband on this adventure with us, the lineup, the food, and everything in between.

What’s Head in the Clouds, when/where was it, and how did we end up there?

Head in the Clouds first came on the scene in 2018 presented by 88rising, a music collective and management company geared towards representing Asian artists. The media often refers to it as Asian Coachella. Last year it took place during the first weekend of November at the Rose Bowl in California.

Kathy saw a flyer for it on Instagram and sent it to Laura not thinking much of it, like oh look your faves (DPR & eaJ) are coming to the US. And next thing we knew, we had bought VIP tickets, secured lodging, and flights. We were going! (Shout out to Laura’s husband Ryan for coming to the festival with us and being a trooper while we were living our best lives.)

On one hand, it was kind of wild that we went to California in the midst of a global pandemic for artists we didn’t even stan that hard, but on the other – we really craved and needed this adventure. It was our first big, fun trip with full vaccination cards in order. Also, since Kathy was a previous Ultra raver (hi Miami!), this was the perfect halfway point between the music festival lifestyle she so missed, and the whole thing of being over 30 and not wanting to be in a mosh pit.

The lineup

Some of the artists we focused on during this episode:

88Rising

CL

DPR Live / DPR Ian

eaJ / Day6

Saweetie

BIBI

Tiger JK / Feel Ghood Music

Warren Hue

The Linda Lindas

Our heads are SO in the clouds we completely forgot to talk about one of the best moments of the festival: Guapdad4000 singing Chicken Adobo. We’ll never get over that and we thank him for giving us SO much enjoyment from his set.

What else is there to be said about a music festival?

THE FOOD. Oh our God, the food. Having been to our share of festivals, food isn’t typically the main attraction (unless it’s SOBE Food & Wine), so we weren’t expecting much going into it but WOW, what an amazing surprise.

HITC’s food was curated by 626 Night Market and we can’t explain how we’re still salivating over and craving that Fat Dragon orange chicken. The vendors we tried were all great and we wish the festival lasted more than two days just so we could try all the yummy foods!

All in all, we had a great experience and can’t wait to go back in 2022!
