Episode 12 – OMG! It’s K-HipHop & K-R&B Powerhouse, AOMG!

When Jay Park set out to do things on his own in the Korean music industry, he didn’t wait on anyone to back him or help him get on his feet. He pulled himself up by his own bootstraps by founding a music label – AOMG (Above Ordinary Music Group) – in 2013, which would house him and other artists he would find along the way that also wanted to take a different approach to making music for the Korean market.

AOMG 10 year challenge

As the label approaches its 10th founding anniversary, things look a lot differently now:

  • There are 19 artists (including an MMA fighter) under the label, some of whom were signed to bigger companies before but took a chance on Jay’s vision and came on board with him.
  • Jay is no longer the one calling the shots at AOMG – at least officially – since his resignation as CEO of the label on December 31st, 2021.
  • AOMG is now the big sister/brother/cousin/relative label of two other companies also founded by Jay: H1GHR Music (2017) and More Vision (2022).

Kathy and Laura’s top picks

Because of musical preferences and flat out time limitations, Kathy and Laura haven’t delved too deep into all 19 artists of AOMG, but they do have some favorites that they cover in this episode:

Not (just) in Kansas (Korea) anymore!

Part of the AOMG gang have actually been touring North America with the “Above Ordinary” joint tour, which comes to an end this week. Did you or will you catch them this time around? We can’t wait to see many of these artists in person, and we’re eager to hear any and all takes on them.
