Yes, you read that right.
Every week of us being multistans in the K-Pop realm feels like a year because of all of the things that happen within the bubbles of the groups we follow. Wednesday June 22nd 2022 was a particular spicy day on Twitter and so since our chitchat was on fire that day, we decided to bring our thoughts to the pod, because there was A LOT to talk about, including:
- RM being swarmed at Incheon upon arriving from his Switzerland/Paris trip, and Switzerland Army reminding everyone of our Army Fanclub rules.
- Korea Singers Association’s Chairman begging BTS to reconsider break (and also pleading with the South Korean government to exempt them from military enlistment).
- Journalists vs. K-Poppies
Listen here:
Aside from the Twitter dumpster fire, we also mentioned:
- Charlie Puth ft. Jungkook‘s collab “Left and Right“
- Billboard Charts vs. Army (shout out to Bad Bunny killing it!)
- BTS members individual Thank You notes in the back of the album. What Suga wants, Suga gets!
Since we recorded the episode on Wednesday June 22nd, we still didn’t know about JHope’s “Jack in the Box” official album teaser so unfortunately that didn’t make it into this weekly roundup.
Once we got through the news in BTS land, we also covered:
- KARD comeback! So happy for them and the Caribbean vibes on #Ring_The_Alarm are IT!
- Summertime sadness: we thought the point of being adults and making money was that we would be able to do whatever we wanted, but unfortunately adulthood ain’t what it’s cracked up to be. Here we are being responsible and saving money when all we really want to do is follow Stray Kids and Tomorrow x Together on their summer tours, go to Lollapalooza to catch JHope’s solo debut stage, and maybe clone ourselves for a few hours at a time so we can be at Head in the Clouds AND at KCON LA simultaneously… le sigh.
- Siwon from Super Junior looking DELICIOUS with the long hair a la Severus Snape or an older I.M from Monsta X
With all the standard K-Pop news out of the way, we also had to briefly mentioned some K-Pop-adjacent news that caught our eye:
- Drake and Beyoncé coming out with club music?! How fourth gen of them. Just kidding! It was surprising (more so Drake) and we couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of these established artists taking such an unexpected road in 2022 with “Honestly, Nevermind” and “Break My Soul.”
- Beyoncé not only dropped a fire summer bop telling us all to release our jobs, but she also took it upon herself to bring back physical albums in the west by packaging them in boxes with different themes that include other items… You see where we’re going with this?! That’s the K-Pop business model through and through. Good thing that we already have our CD players in hand, while the rest of the Beyhive is dusting off old radios or browsing online to see if they still make them lol…
So so much happened last week in one day, and we didn’t even know we would end the week with a self-posted picture of shirtless Kim Seokjin revealing his “7” tattoo on the backside of his ribcage… which makes it 6/7 members that have shown us their friendship tattoo placement (even though we’re not too sure Tae’s was the real thing yet. It looked like a marker drawing, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he was testing locations before committing). Suga, your show and tell turn is up!
And no, of course Laura is not doing well after Jin dropped his bare worldwide handsome back. Please, let’s keep all Tae/Namjoon/Jin-biased Army in our thoughts because they had it rough over the weekend. When the full Kim line activates, it’s always dangerous isn’t it?!
