About us

Kathy & Laura saw a gap in the K-Entertainment commentary space, so they’re here to bring their unique perspective with a side of “So Miami.” Read more about your hostesses with the mostesses below!

Our journey to K-Pop

2020 was a life-changing year for all of humanity, and it also changed us in more (and very unexpected) ways than we can count. We found Webtoons, K-Dramas, K-Hip Hop/K-R&B, and K-Pop that year, and that may just have been the biggest change of all.

Getting sucked into the world of Korean entertainment was something that neither of us saw coming, but we almost can’t think back to a time when it wasn’t the center of our conversations 24/7. Speaking of our conversations, that’s precisely what led us here, today. Our tendency to out-attack each other with beautiful pictures of our biases and give each other the 411 on the latest cultural details we just found out about was something we thought others would enjoy to witness. After all, we’re just constantly trying to make each other laugh (or break).

The beginning of MIA2K Podcast

Kathy and Laura wanted a creative outlet and an opportunity to dive even deeper into conversations about their new favorite guilty pleasure – but with none of the guilt. And so was born MIA2K, a podcast that centers heavily around all things K (especially K-Pop), where Kathy and Laura share their perspectives coming from Latin households and living in South Florida. Two millennial gals who communicate in Spanglish and Gen Z slang, pivoting hard into Korean? What could possibly go wrong?

Everything (we hope).

Individual contributions

Although we thrive together, there’s a big difference to what we each bring to the table: while Kathy can write a yellow pages-sized dissertation on basically anything, Laura draws and designs for hours on end. Laura plans and builds out savvy content strategies, while Kathy is the networking and relationship ace.

The podcast remains the most fun outlet for us to share all our insights together, but sometimes we like to express ourselves beyond that medium. Here you’ll find both of our individual creations – in our own love languages.
